In high school, there was a song with lyrics that went "Boom boom boom / Let's go back to my room / So we can do it all night / and you can make me feel right." I used to mock it soundly.
There are worse lyrics out there.
I've found one.
KFOG has been playing this sing-songy singer-songwriter tripe by someone named Colbie Caillat. A sample of the lyrics:
cause every time i see your bubbly face
i get the tinglies in a silly place
It starts in my toes
makes me crinkle my nose
where ever it goes i always know
that you make me smile
please stay for a while now
just take your time
where ever you go
and!
What am i gonna say
when you make me feel this way
I just........mmmmmmmmmmm
The simplistic rhyming, the over-earnest singing... it just makes me crazy every time KFOG plays it. Yeesh!
Updated to add: OK, so she is only 22. I should cut her a break. But then I read reviews like this and I get annoyed all over again.
I think in many ways you must be female to understand and truly enjoy Caillat’s simple melodies and lyrics, written, as they are, from a female perspective. So where some may find her music sickly saccharine, childish, and flaccid, I see engaging pureness, teasing silliness, and the appealing nature of simplicity.
Erg. Reminds me of book groups where we'd read some so-so book and somebody would inevitably pipe up, "I loved this book because it features a strong woman!"
