I'm in trouble now...

|

Amazon's new MP3 music store seems like a great way to spend lots of money very quickly. I've already found several albums I want to buy that Emusic doesn't carry, and iTunes has, but with DRM.

I won't be cancelling my Emusic subscription (I'm only paying $10 a month for 40 tracks, and even the new price of $10 for 30 tracks is cheaper than just about anywhere else ((legally, anyway))) and I'm sure I'll still buy some music from iTunes — and certainly video — but I'll also be checking Amazon before I do...

What makes a spammer think...

... I would ever be motivated to open an email from "ooralis" with the subject line "oorie oory oos"? Heck, sometimes I ignore my daughter when she says "oorie oory oos!"

Awwww...

Very cute.

Click here (make sure you have RealPlayer installed and working) and pay attention at the 2:40 minute mark. (It was a lovely wedding; congratulations you two!)

BUDGET SUCKS BIG GREASY BALLS

|

Just lost 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back trying to sign up for their FastBreak program... got a page of JSP errors, and then got told my form submission didn't work. I then wasted another 5 minutes trying to tell Budget that their site was blowing up, but even their "contact us" page doesn't work.

Sure, I could have called their phone number, but I pity the poor slob who would have answered that call.

BIG. GREASY. BALLS.

Worst. Lyrics. Ever.

|

In high school, there was a song with lyrics that went "Boom boom boom / Let's go back to my room / So we can do it all night / and you can make me feel right." I used to mock it soundly.

There are worse lyrics out there.

I've found one.

KFOG has been playing this sing-songy singer-songwriter tripe by someone named Colbie Caillat. A sample of the lyrics:

cause every time i see your bubbly face i get the tinglies in a silly place

It starts in my toes
makes me crinkle my nose
where ever it goes i always know
that you make me smile
please stay for a while now
just take your time
where ever you go

and!

What am i gonna say when you make me feel this way I just........mmmmmmmmmmm

The simplistic rhyming, the over-earnest singing... it just makes me crazy every time KFOG plays it. Yeesh!

Updated to add: OK, so she is only 22. I should cut her a break. But then I read reviews like this and I get annoyed all over again.

I think in many ways you must be female to understand and truly enjoy Caillat’s simple melodies and lyrics, written, as they are, from a female perspective. So where some may find her music sickly saccharine, childish, and flaccid, I see engaging pureness, teasing silliness, and the appealing nature of simplicity.

Erg. Reminds me of book groups where we'd read some so-so book and somebody would inevitably pipe up, "I loved this book because it features a strong woman!"

Attention Kmart shoppers, and everyone else...

This is what 7 years of free-market, small-government Republicans will do for ya.

By law, the commission can mandate safety standards only after voluntary measures have failed. Chinese officials and factory owners have said, however, that they do not feel compelled to meet the voluntary standards.

“Time and again, through the translators, they made clear they did not understand this concept,” said Nick Marchica, an engineer and former agency senior aide. “What they told us was, ‘As far as we are concerned, voluntary means we don’t have to.’ ”

Think about that next time you're buying toys for your children, will you?
