So in the Washington Times, we've got some right-wing guy I never heard of going on about why blacks should vote for Bush this year. "The Democrats' most influential constituencies have interests and agendas with major negative impacts on blacks," says he. As evidence, he cites
-The dominance of teachers' unions, which prevent the ability of parents to take their kids out of failing schools. Never mind that there's no law that would require private schools to take their kids, and that the voucher amount wouldn't even begin to cover tuition at some of the private schools.
-The high cost of housing in the San Francisco Bay Area, which he blames on — environmentalists! "Tens of thousands of blacks left San Francisco during a decade when the total population of the city was rising by tens of thousands. The same was true in adjoining San Mateo County." Um, dude... heard of the dot-com boom? Or the fact that the weather, good universities, and job opportunities continue even now to attact people to the Bay Area? Also, those evil environmentalists are out there making sure that poor minorities don't have to pay the price of their health. Guess who lives in Richmond near the refineries?
-Liberal judges who — let me see if I've got this right — let criminals out of jail so they can terrorize black neighborhoods, and who also are likely to cause more people to get AIDS because they're going to legalize same-sex marriage. Never mind that blacks get locked up for far longer than whites for similar crimes. Never mind police brutality. Oh, and sex ed won't prevent AIDS. Only forbidding people who are sleeping together anyway from getting married will do that.
How anybody can convince themselves of this nonsense, much less try to convince anybody else, just astounds me. I really hope people don't fall for it.
