International aid groups press NATO to improve security in Afghanistan

Fear as ports fail to act on security rules

Plans to introduce new global security rules for ships and ports from July 1 are set to fail, according to figures from the London-based International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Data released by the United Nations agency show that just 33 per cent of 21,283 ships liable to follow the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code actually comply with the guidelines.
