Not so simple

|

Or simplistic. In the first few months after September 11, I kept getting into arguments with people. No matter what they said, I'd say "Yes, but...". This article in Mother Jones comes the closest of anything I've read to capturing what I was feeling.

Cheesy, but fun

Occasionally I stumble across the oddest things on the Internet. I tripped over this one while searching for information about configuring htaccess.

The Guardian ran this today. There are many bizarre aspects of it, but on a personal level, I didn't realize his parents were essentially my age — when he was born in 1986, his mother was 18 and his father was 20. Sounds like a fairly dismal life from the beginning...sad.

He can't say that, can he?

Bush can, and has. "Not over my dead body will they raise your taxes." But at least now you can test your knowledge of Bushisms with the London Guardian.

If I have one New Year's resolution...

It is to remember to update this site more often! (Heck, you didn't expect me to vow to lose ten pounds or read all of Marcel Proust's works, did you?)So I'm going to attempt to remember to post just one thing each day. Just one teensy-tiny item. That shouldn't be so hard.OK, here's my first. An interesting article from the San Francisco Chronicle (November 27, but just noticed it today) on Incredibly Strange Databases. It's actually more about community websites (slashdot, Craigslist) and how their archives can be quite revealing about the times in which they were created. (Like the rise and fall of computer job postings on Craigslist.)And that's it for now!
